About the Role
GoTranscript is looking for detail-oriented freelance transcriptionists to convert audio and video content into accurate, well-formatted written text. This is a flexible, remote, task-based opportunity — you choose the files you want to work on and are paid per completed job.
What You'll Be Doing
Listen to audio/video files and transcribe them into text with high accuracy
Follow strict formatting, punctuation, and style guidelines provided by the platform
Identify and label multiple speakers where required (speaker diarization)
Research and correctly spell unfamiliar terms, names, or jargon
Proofread and edit completed transcripts for grammar, clarity, and consistency
Meet agreed turnaround times for each assigned task
Requirements
Excellent command of written English (or the specific target language, if applying for non-English transcription)
Strong listening skills and ability to accurately transcribe varied accents, audio quality, and speech patterns
Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Strong attention to detail and consistency
Reliable computer, headset, and stable high-speed internet connection
Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in transcription, captioning, subtitling, or proofreading
Familiarity with transcription software or tools
Typing speed of 50+ WPM
Background in journalism, linguistics, English, or a related field (not mandatory, but an asset)
Assessment Process
Applicants are typically required to complete a short transcription test to assess accuracy, speed, and formatting compliance before being approved to work on live files.
What to Expect
Fully remote, freelance/contract-based work — no fixed hours
Pay is typically per audio minute transcribed, varying by task difficulty and turnaround time
Access to a steady stream of available files once approved
Opportunity to take on more specialized or higher-paying tasks (e.g., legal, medical, or subtitling work) as you build a track record
